| Subject: | Update – Underground Electric Distribution System (UEDS) Design Standard Change Effective June 2, 2025 |
In February 2025, FortisAlberta notified BILD Associations that residential electricity service standards would be changing with a planned effective date of March 1, 2025. These UEDS design updates include new residential loading requirements, and the expanded use of 4/0 Aluminum (AL) Underground Service Entrance Bundled (USEB) cable in most residential home types for new greenfield residential electrical services.
Recognizing recent industry feedback, FortisAlberta is extending a two-month grace period for implementing the design changes. The updated effective date is now June 2, 2025, for new applications and new Issued-For-Review (IFR1) design submissions adhering to the current UEDS-03 Manual design standards.
