BILD Calgary Region Industry Update 2026 – 36

The City of Calgary has introduced new permit requirements for engineers and third-party temporary traffic control providers working within City rights-of-way (ROW). Effective July 13, 2026, only permit holders will be authorized to develop, implement, or authenticate Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs), Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), and Traffic Accommodation Strategies (TASs) within City ROW.

To obtain a permit, applicants must meet specific requirements, including insurance coverage, qualifications, and submission of supporting documentation. Permits will be valid for one year and may be renewed annually at no cost.

The City of Calgary has informed BILD Calgary Region that the program is intended to improve accountability, safety, and compliance for temporary traffic control activities.

BILD Calgary Region has submitted questions to The City of Calgary seeking clarification on several aspects of the program and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
