Subject:New ATCO Gas Builder Site Readiness Guide

ATCO Gas has released a new Builder Site Readiness Guide that clearly outlines what must be in place before requesting natural gas service installation (service lines, risers, or meters).

This guide is intended to be a single “source of truth” to help reduce avoidable delays, repeat site visits, and potential mobilization fees.

What builders need to do

Before requesting installation, please:

  • Review the guide
  • Share it with your site supervisors and trades (especially plumbing and heating)
  • Confirm your site is fully ready before ATCO crews are scheduled

What the guide covers

  • Service pipe and riser installation requirements
  • Meter installation readiness (including minimum meter set requirements)
  • Residential, multi‑family, and commercial site considerations
  • Temporary gas service / construction energy
  • A site readiness checklist for field use

⚠️ Important: If the site is not ready when ATCO crews arrive, installation may be deferred and a return visit may be required. Additional mobilization fees may apply.

If installation can’t proceed

If ATCO crews or planners attend your site and are unable to complete the work due to readiness issues, a Yellow Site Inspection Card may be left on site:

  • Typically stapled to the foundation if the riser cannot be installed, or
  • Zip‑tied to the riser valve if the riser is installed but the meter cannot be

The card will explain what needs to be corrected and direct you back to the site readiness guide.

If you receive a card:

  1. Correct the noted item(s), and
  2. Use the guide to confirm all requirements are met before re‑requesting service
