| Subject: | Invitation: City of Calgary Floodplain Mapping & Regulations Engagement |
The City of Calgary is seeking input on updated land use policies and regulations for floodplains, which will be incorporated into the Land Use Bylaw in 2026. These updates are part of ongoing efforts to enhance Calgary's flood resilience, building on investments that have reduced Calgary's potential flood damages by 70%.
Key points:
- The City has completed a groundwater study to better understand river flood-induced groundwater risks. This includes new mapping proposed to be incorporated into Calgary's regulatory flood map as a Groundwater Flood Fringe.
- The province released updated flood hazard mapping in 2025, and The City is proposing new regulations aligned to the new mapping approach.
- Draft regulations will be presented during public engagement November 24 – December 12, 2025. Calgarians can provide feedback via an online survey, in-person drop-in events, or a virtual information session.
