*More information

Making careful decisions about how we plan, protect, develop and build in the floodplain is key to Calgary’s flood resilience, The City of Calgary is planning for the future of our river valleys, including our flood hazard areas, through the Calgary River Valleys Project. The Calgary River Valley Project is launching Stage 2 engagement on January 29, 2024. We will look at floodplain policy and land use decisions, with a focus on location-specific regulations and flood mapping.

Calgary’s draft updated Flood Hazard Area map will be an important tool to help guide engagement conversations. Recently released by the Government of Alberta, the map reflects the latest understanding of a 1:100 (1 per cent chance) flood risk and includes a new approach to flood hazard area mapping. Visit floodhazard.alberta.ca to learn more about draft updated Flood Hazard Area maps for Alberta.

City wants to hear from industry

Given the broad impacts of floodplain policies and regulations, it is crucial that The City hear from all who have an interest in our floodplain areas. They acknowledge that this topic is of particular interest to the development community and our city building partners, so they are inviting you to a development industry-specific engagement session (hosted on MS Teams). Be sure to secure your place by registering below:

They are also hosting two additional workshops for other interested parties, which you are also welcome to join if the above date does not work for you.

All sessions will cover the same information, so you only need to register for one date. Please note: The above three sessions are not intended for the general public and we ask that you do not distribute these links beyond your organization.
