| Subject: | Important Update: Emergency Operations Centre Activated in Manchester Industrial Area |
BILD Calgary Region (BILDCR) received the following information from The City of Calgary regarding the activation of an Emergency Operations Centre in the Manchester Industrial Area. BILDCR will communicate any further details we receive with membership.
Please read the message below for more information:
By now you are probably aware of a significant development in the Manchester Industrial area that is impacting local businesses and commuting patterns. As an Agency Partner with CEMA, our team at Business & Local Economy wanted to make sure that you were aware that we are in contact with CEMA to ensure that our business community is aware of what’s going on even if you are not directly impacted.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2025, the Calgary Police Service Tactical Unit responded to a suspicious package in the 4700 block of First Street S.W. Upon investigation, it was determined that the package contained potentially explosive materials that are too unstable to move. The materials were reportedly delivered in error to a business in the area.
To ensure public safety, The City of Calgary has activated the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to oversee the controlled disposal of these hazardous materials. The Tactical Unit, in coordination with the Calgary Fire Department, will conduct a series of controlled detonations on-site beginning early tomorrow morning.
This situation is causing disruptions in the area, and at this time it is unclear how long the disposal process will take. We ask for your patience and cooperation as crews work to safely manage the incident.
We encourage you to monitor official City channels for updates and avoid the area if possible.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know so we can share them with our colleagues at CEMA.
Kind regards,
Paul Martinez (CoE., BBA., PMP.)
