BILD Calgary Region Bulletin 2024 – 21

From: Mohamad Mohamad
Date:April 16, 2024
Subject:FLOW METERING FOR COMMISSIONING OF NEW WATER MAINS`

The City of Calgary’s Water Services has implemented changes to the required process to be followed during the commissioning of new potable water mains, to support improved auditing of the City of Calgary’s non-revenue potable water. The volume of all water flushed from the system during the commissioning inspection process shall be captured and reported through the use of a stopwatch and a pitot-style gauge, or other suitable flow meter product. In addition, suitable backflow prevention, such as a one-way check valve or vacuum breaker, is required to avoid potential contamination of the water supply. BILD would like to note that a similar bulletin was issued by the City of Calgary in August 2021 (Click HERE), and the requirements were updated in s.504.09.01 of the 2022 Waterworks Specifications.
