BILD Calgary Region Bulletin 2024 – 25

From:Sarah Champagne, Senior Coordinator, Policy and Building Technical, Calgary and Region
Date:May 16, 2024
Subject:City of Calgary Home Energy Label Program Update

The New Home Pilot remains open for enrollment and has been extended until December 31, 2024. Builders can opt-in and receive a $250 rebate for each EnerGuide label up to a maximum of $7,500 per applicant. The rebate is available through the new single construction permit (SCP) application for new single-family, semi-detached or duplex dwellings. To date, participating builders have enrolled almost 1000 properties, each providing them with access to program rebates and the ability to trial and provide feedback on the administrative process.

The development of the Energy Label Database Bylaw remains on track. The proposed bylaw was iteratively developed through a formal engagement process and has incorporated learnings and feedback obtained through the pilot process. Program administration will now take the bylaw to the Community Development Committee of Council in June 2024 and to Council in September 2024, with a target enactment date of January 2025. Once enacted, energy labels will be a mandatory requirement for all new low-density homes.

Participating builder’s will be contacted over the summer with a request for support at Council in September and can provide written support or attend the public hearing. For more information on this, please contact Eric.Timmins@calgary.ca

The Home Energy Performance Map is expected to launch in Fall 2024. The map is designed to share home energy scores publicly and will enable Calgarians to look up the EnerGuide rating or digital energy scoring of any home in Calgary.
