| Subject: | City of Calgary CAD As-Built Block Profiles Optional Starting in 2023 |
The City of Calgary (The City) has updated its As-Built Block Profiles (BPs) submission requirements for construction projects initiated on or after January 1, 2023 whereby, .TIFF and .PDF formats are now required, and supplying a .DWG version is optional. In an effort to find efficiencies in The City’s As-Built BPs submission process, engagement was done with those involved in producing, maintaining and utilizing BPs.
Results showed that:
- On average, a new subdivision construction project produced 24 As-Built BPs and a City-initiated construction project produced 15
- Almost one third of the drafting time needed to produce As-Built BPs was spent on preparing the .DWG version to meet The City’s submission requirements
- Existing CAD formats (i.e. DWG or .DGN) versions were rarely used to update As-Built BPs, since it took less time to produce them from scratch
- .TIFF and .PDF versions adequately provide the information needed
A review of downloads and sales of As-Built BPs from 2016 to 2022 revealed that:
- Approximately 5053 As-Built BPs were downloaded through City Online annually
- Demand for As-Built BPs in the available CAD format (i.e. DWG) represented only 2.5 per cent of the total 5053 downloaded and 16.5 per cent of the revenue generated
In light of the feedback regarding the effort required to prepare the .DWG version, its limited use, and given the availability of the information in other file formats, supplying a .DWG version is now optional for both City-initiated, and NEW subdivision construction projects initiated on or after January 1, 2023. This means that all construction drawings attached to Development Agreements executed in 2023 are subject to these requirements.
