BILDCR 2022 / 2023 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Nominees

BILD Calgary Region Association Board of Directors play an essential role in furthering advocacy initiatives for the organization as well as for Calgary and the Region. Below is a list of the 2022/2023 BILDCR Association Board of Directors’ Nominees for each of the categories. Next to the category is how many open seats are available for the upcoming Board of Directors Voting that will be sent out via digital ballot on Monday, June 6. Every BILDCR member organization that is in good standing will receive one vote (in each of the categories below) as well as additional votes based on members who are part of BILDCR committees.  Each committee member will receive a maximum of one vote.  Voting will conclude on Friday, June 17 at 4:00 pm (MST) and the new Board of Directors members will be introduced at the 2022 BILDCR Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, June 22.

Builder Developer – Established Area Nominees (Two Seats Available) 

Patrick Briscoe (Graywood Developments)

As a born and raised Calgarian it has been incredible to witness the city grow, evolve and continue to be one of the best places in the world to live. Patrick has been fortunate to be a member of the development and home building industry and be able to play a small part in shaping the city over his 15-year career.

For the past 6 years, Patrick has been the Vice President, Development for Graywood Developments in Calgary where he responsible for development activities predominantly in the established area of the city.  With current projects ranging from low-rise multi family, TOD area development, mid-rise mixed use and high rise concrete towers it brings a unique position to the BILD Board on the issues facing the established areas of the city. Patrick’s past experience in the industry was held with reputable organizations developing large greenfield communities. He has proven success in all aspects of acquisitions, land use planning, project finance, project management, sales, marketing and customer service.

As a long standing member of BILD CR, Patrick is currently an active member of the Established Area Committee and have held positions on the Transportation Committee and various other BILD working groups.  He’d like to bring my passion, dedication, energy and diverse development background to represent BILD members in a distinguished manner. Patrick believes he can help further BILD’s position with my experience in Calgary’s established area.  On a personal level, he is eager to bring a rational approach which would make him a first rate director candidate. Norah Fraser (Minto Communities)

Norah is a Real Estate Executive with over 16 years of experience building master-planned communities and award winning urban projects. She is an experienced professional in leading and building teams with successful division start-up experience. Project Development experience encompasses all phases of the real estate lifecycle from acquisition to completion. Expertise in feasibility analysis, budgeting, product development, sales, marketing and project management. Norah seeks the opportunity to serve as a Director on the BILD Calgary Region board in order to help advance industry initiatives with Calgary’s regional municipalities. To advance BILDCR’s positive shift in Calgary to be viewed as leaders in of equity, diversity, and inclusion as we grow Calgary by creating socially and environmentally impactful communities. Both as an industry executive and BILD volunteer, Norah advocates on behalf of the association since locating to Calgary from Ottawa in 2010. Norah’s volunteer roles include the BILDCR Awards, Airdrie Builder and Urban Redevelopment committees. As a marketing executive, she has lead investment in BILD sponsorship opportunities and advocacy investment.

Gillian Lawrence (Remington)

The last two years has been an interesting time to be a Director of the BILD CR Board due to the pandemic. Gillian would like to continue in this role as move out of the pandemic; these are interesting and transformative times. Gillian has been involved with BILD Calgary Region and the former UDI since 2007, first as a long-serving member of the Planning Committee, then a member of the of various City/Industry Committees including the Developer Advisory Group and the Established Area Advisory Committee.  Most importantly, Gillian has been an active participant of in the Off-site Levy Area review/negotiations including membership on the Joint Governance Committee.  It has been a challenging and slow endeavour and Gillian wants to ensure that the process for determining levies along with monitoring and reporting their use is fair, open and transparent.

Gillian joined Remington Development Corporation in 2006 as the Director of Planning and was promoted to General Manager of Land Development in 2013. Remington’s developments including industrial, commercial, multi-family and office and we specialize in brownfield redevelopment.  Prior to joining Remington, she spent 10 years working at the City of Calgary in various roles in Development & Building Approvals, Corporate Properties (now REDS) and the City Manager’s office.  Given Remington’s breadth development experience and her 10 years working at the City of Calgary, Gillian believes she can offer relevant and insightful perspectives.

Mace Mortimer (Alloy Homes)

Mace is co-founder of Alloy Homes, an award-winning, custom design + build firm operating since 2000. As Owner and Managing Partner, Construction, he oversees Alloy’s construction team and all residential projects in Calgary and Edmonton to ensure clients are receiving the highest quality product and service.  A leader in both the business and the homebuilding communities, Mace champions collaboration, entrepreneurialism, building excellence and life-long learning.   As a long-time Albertan and local business owner, Mace offers a deep understanding of the building landscape. He has seen first-hand the evolution of by-laws, attitudes toward residential development, and the value of pushing the envelope to create projects that contribute to our neighbourhoods and communities.

I have volunteered time to BILD Calgary Region as a member of the Inner-City Committee and participate annually as a judge in the local, provincial, and national awards. Joe Case (Mattamy Homes)

Joe has 16 years experience in the development industry between Mattamy Homes and his previous position developing Elbow Valley in Rock View County. He has managed many different aspects of the land development business and pushed the boundaries of innovative and sustainable residential development in each of the communities he has been a part of. In his current role as Vice President of Land Development, he oversees all of Mattamy’s actively developing and future communities across Alberta.

Joe has been an active volunteer with UDI and BILD for 10 years and has been the chair of the BILD Airdrie Developer Committee for the past 6. Through his work with BILD in Airdrie, he has led a unified industry voice in two rounds of offsite levy negotiations and countless spec and policy change initiatives. He advocates for a strong, collaborative working relationship with administration so that industry can meticulously defend our interests when important decisions are being made. If elected to the Board of Directors, he will continue to be a strong voice for our industry in our unique and challenging market.

Jeff Kitteringham (Brookfield)

Jeff has been actively involved in BILD CR since 2017. He is current involvement includes sitting on the Board of Directors, chairing the Technical Finance & Infrastructure Committee as well as being a member of the Audit and Offsite Levy Committees. Jeff has been able to bring his financial experience and a strategic, collaborative approach to these various roles to influence a number of key issues important to BILD CR and its members. Jeff believes he can continue to add value to the Board going forward.

Stephanie Myers (Jayman BUILT)

Given the direction that the building industry is advancing, Stephanie’s tenure with Jayman BUILT has provided knowledge, experience and passion in building a greener future.  Responsible energy use, on-site energy production, healthy living and decreasing our environmental footprint is a commitment that this industry has made.  As a born-and-raised Calgarian, Stephanie appreciates the opportunity that being a part of the BILD Calgary Region Board would provide in assisting that change.

She has worked on and continues to hold a position on the Economic Forecast Committee.  The information sharing has been pertinent to the progression of home building over the last 18 months as we’ve navigated the challenges of increased sales volumes, decreased labour availability and inconsistency with supply.  As a member of this committee, Stephanie has been able to share thoughts and concerns regarding the rapidly increasing costs, affordability restrictions and the reality of rising interest rates.  This committee has been able to come together to ensure consistency in messaging and support for those areas of concern. Stephanie is an advocate for education/training and she values the expertise of the many members of BILD;  Stephanie actively attends as many webinars and guest speaker events as possible.

Tara Steell (Dream Developments)

Tara has had the privilege to participate on the Board of Directors for BILD Calgary Region this past term. Tara welcomes the opportunity to further deepen her contribution to BILD and our industry as a whole. While Tara has served on a number of Boards and Councils previously, her work on the BILD Board is enhanced with her committee work that started under the UDI Calgary banner including the Planning Committee, the Developer Advisory Committee and most recently the Off Site Bylaw Steering Committee. Tara brings a balanced and nuanced understanding of the development process while ensuring the interests of builders and in turn our customers (those that call our communities home) are reflected in the discussions and plans to ensure our region remains competitive and a desirable place to choose to live, work, play and invest.

Michele Ward (Homes By Avi)

Michele has been the Chief Financial Officer of Homes by Avi for the past 10 years, overseeing the financial stewardship and the implementation of strategic initiatives across diverse business units and geographical areas.  Prior to joining the Calgary building industry, Michele enjoyed a 17 year career in public practice, including being a Public Company Assurance Partner at MNP LLP.   This industry is very near and dear to Michele’s heart, as her family owned and operated a general contracting company for 25 years in northern Alberta.

Michele has been an engaged member on the BILD Calgary Region Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the past year as Secretary/Treasurer, Audit Committee Chair and serving on 3 sub committees.  Michele has been an active member of the Financial Professionals Committee and Off Site Levy (“OSL”) Committee for the past 2 years, working closely with BILD management team to review third party and City of Calgary documents, providing comments and analysis, and hosting whiteboarding sessions to move strategic initiatives forward.

Tyler Blenkhorn (Arthur J Gallagher)

Tyler excels at developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, prospects and all members of the team by using strong communication skills. He is driven on individual and more importantly overall team success. He possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively in the office to maintain and exceed targets. He is quick learner with excellent presentation and negotiation skills and has the ability to meet deadlines without compromising the level of accuracy. With regards to his interaction with BILD.  As a representative of Gallagher, Tyler volunteered at our Premium Sponsorship hole last year, as well as being part of the Golf Tournament organization committee.   Tyler looks to further expand my opportunities to be involved with BILD as the years go on. When Tyler started at Gallagher in December of 2020, the first association he wanted to make sure Gallagher belonged to was BILD.  Tyler believes that strong organizations such as BILD are catalysts for their members and such so important in the ever-evolving world we work and live in.

Don Dessario (NORR)

Don brings a wealth of technical insight to the design and construction of architectural projects, taking a valuable leadership role in consultant
coordination, strategic cost control, constructability, project assessment and quality assurance. Don’s solutions-driven approach to project management
on behalf of NORR clients has proven to be a vital success factor for numerous projects during design development and construction phases.

Stephanie Kuntz (Marsh)

Stephanie is Vice President with Marsh Canada’s National Construction & Surety Practice. Prior to joining Marsh, Stephanie was a senior surety underwriter with national carriers for 12 years, during which she honed her skills in financial underwriting, risk mitigation and management, and contract review, to name a few key areas of expertise. While Stephanie’s work spans across varying sectors of construction, she has a dedicated focus to the development industry. A key objective of hers is to advocate for improvement in business conditions for developers throughout Canada, through innovation of alternative financial
instruments, education and awareness at the municipality level, and implementation of policy change. Stephanie specializes in a range of risk mitigation and capital optimization tools including development bonds, home warranty, and deposit protection insurance. Stephanie is an active contributor to BILD Calgary Region, through her participation on the Off-Site Levies Bylaw Committee and the Financial Professionals Sub-Committee.
