What We Said

BILD Calgary Region emphasized the importance of finding common ground and a workable path forward for the industry and all Calgarians.

“It is not about choosing one side over the other — it is about finding a path forward that reflects the values of our community, supports our economy, and ensures Calgary remains a place where current and future residents can afford to live.”

“Land use bylaw amendments and policy initiatives are most effective when they reduce avoidable delays and provide clear, stable direction for applicants and homeowners who plan projects in good faith.”

BILD Calgary Region’s Position

If Council proceeds with repealing or modifying blanket rezoning, BILD Calgary Region has outlined the following core expectations:

  • Fair treatment of existing applications. Any applications already submitted must be processed under the rules in place at the time of submission.
  • Clear communication from The City. The City must provide transparent transition rules, timelines, and cutoff dates so that industry and homeowners understand how past, current, and future applications will be handled. Prolonged uncertainty delays housing delivery and increases costs.
  • Avoiding unintended consequences. Any changes should be carefully considered to preserve important elements such as development permit exemptions, vehicle and bicycle parking requirement updates, and mobility storage provisions.
  • A swift and decisive resolution. BILD urges Council to resolve this matter promptly. Once a framework is adopted, BILD looks forward to working collaboratively with The City and communities to support housing delivery and affordability.

Looking Ahead

BILD Calgary Region remains committed to working with The City of Calgary and all city-building partners to support housing affordability for everyone looking to call Calgary home.
