| Subject: | BILD Alberta Advocacy on Future Building Code: Please Assist by Completing a Quick Poll on Niches and Window Options in Bathrooms |
BILD Alberta has been contacted by Codes Canada to provide crucial input on a matter that could significantly impact future design choices in our industry. The Accessibility Task Group is currently reviewing public comments related to proposed changes to the 2020 National Building Code (NBC) for the 2025 publication and a specific proposal, PCF 1882, which address reinforcement requirements for present and future grab bar installation.
The current language in the proposed change could potentially limit design flexibility for walls in areas like showers, bathtubs, shower/bathtub combinations, and toilets. This could restrict the use of popular design elements such as niches and windows.
To ensure that our industry has flexibility to adapt to future accessibility needs and design trends, we need to show the Task Group the popularity and practicality of niches and windows in these areas.
Please take a moment to complete this 4-question poll here by October 31, 2024. All responses collected will be anonymous.
Your participation will help shape the future of building codes and ensure that our industry remains at the forefront of accessibility and design.
